Niles-Maine District Library

Park Re-dedication, Library Field Day and Family Concert at Dee Park!

Niles-Maine District Library is not only a great library, it runs in good company—with, for example, its partner the Golf Maine Park District. They will combine their talents on Saturday, June 16 at a gala event open to all.

What’s the occasion? The newly renovated Dee Park Recreation Center (9229 W. Emerson Street, Des Plaines—the corner of Dee Rd. and Emerson St.) will be re-opened with much fanfare! New and improved, indeed: building and grounds are now better equipped to accommodate fitness programs (“fitness stations” await), group sports (volleyball, basketball), one-on-one sports (tennis, badminton, ping pong, cornhole bag toss), gatherings (in the plaza), and walking exercise (outdoor trail) with the aid of exterior bathrooms , new gym floors, and gym locker rooms.

First, the playground gets its ribbon cut at 10:00 am; the Mike Yesner Gymnasium’s turn comes at 10:30 am. That’s also when the Bounce House, carnival-style games, balloon artist extraordinaire, and face painter will delight, amaze, and amuse the children present (and maybe adults as well).  Until 1:30 pm, bouncing, gaming, ballooning, and having faces painted are strongly encouraged. Along the way (at 10:45 am), a large cake will be cut and served with coffee and bottled water.

The Niles-Maine District Library steps up to bat at 2:00 pm with three-legged races, hoola hoop competitions, bean bag tossing, and other fall-down-laughing-type fun.  Finally, at 3:00 pm, the library presents an hour-long concert by a rollicking musical group, the Animal Farm Band. Very likely, widespread toe-tapping and swaying, perhaps even dancing, will break out!

Fun, food, games, and sports: what’s not to like about this combination? Come see for yourself! RSVPing always helps event organizers, so consider calling the Golf Maine Park District at 847-297-3026 (ext. 211) to RSVP your family or visiting the Library’s Facebook event page. See you there!
