A Message from the Executive Director
We hear from many of our residents that they are anxious to be able to use their library again. Here is our plan for gradually restoring services. It is very similar to our surrounding libraries—we are all taking things slowly to prevent the library from becoming a place where illness spreads.
Starting today, we are opening up the book return through Sunday, May 31 to give the material time to be in quarantine. Materials will be checked in once staff return to the building. We await the results of a study being conducted on library materials before deciding when to open the book return again. Please refrain from returning technology equipment until further notice.
Beginning June 1, if the State of Illinois moves into Phase 3 as anticipated, we will send the Maintenance and IT staff back into the building to begin preparing it for staff. The following week, members of our Patron Services team will be back to check in and put away the many returned materials we have received so far. They will also begin pulling the many many items people have put on hold in our catalog to get them ready for pick-up. Our Technical Services staff will receive the many many items that we have ordered so that those can be ready for pick-up too.
We plan to begin No Contact Holds Pick-Up Service around June 15. At that time, we will bring back some of the librarians and library assistants to help find books, DVDs, music, videogames, and other library material for you to come pick up. However, we will not be opening the building to patrons at this time—that will begin in the state’s Phase 4.
We know that some of you are especially anxious to get back to using the library computers, and we are developing our plan for opening that up safely, by appointment. More information will be available in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, please continue to enjoy our excellent online resources and programs, available at www.nileslibrary.org.
