Starting out in Hollywood as a writer, Curtis Hanson had some minor successes with his screenplays and eventually with the movies he directed. But, it wasn’t until 1992’s sleeper hit, The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, that he became a director with his pick of projects. In 1997, he picked a life changing project with L.A. Confidential, which remains his most acclaimed and successful movie. Hanson won his only Oscar for writing the screenplay for L.A. Confidential, which he also directed and produced.
