There is only one day when Star Wars fans, Potterheads, Whovians, and Disney maniacs can all gather and mingle in fan frenzy bliss here at the Niles Library: Fandom Fest! Join us on Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 2 to 4pm for a day full of crafts, costumes, and tributes to your favorite movies, TV shows, and comics.
According to our Teen Underground poll, the top fandoms are:
– Disney (including the series Once Upon A Time)
– The Hunger Games
– Marvel Universe
– Harry Potter
– Doctor Who
– DC Universe
– Star Wars
The NPLD Fandom Fest will have something for everyone, so stop in for some cool stuff. Everyone who attends is encouraged (but not required) to come in costume and participate in our cosplay parade. This also gives you the opportunity to observe everyone’s outfits and vote for your favorite. There will also be game tables set up with trivia, polls, “I Spy” and a special edition of the “Guess Who” game.
There will be a couple schools there as well dedicated to the cause. Niles West High School’s Science Fiction Club and Emerson Middle School’s Fandom Club will have their own display tables set up for you to check out.
Besides all THAT, there will also be tables set up where fans can make their own pinback buttons, shrinky dink key chains, clay miniatures and and paper craft figures. Make sure to stop by any of these craft areas to make your own take-home souvenir.
And while you’re milling about the Library, stop by the Commons area to check out our Fandom Fest display case with Harry Potter and Star Wars dolls. The creator, Kathy van Beuningen, is a Chicago artist and a founding member of both the 501st and Rebel Legion fan costuming groups. She has been building miniature costume replicas on American Girl–type dolls for 12+ years. She has built over two dozen different Star Wars costume replicas, as well as a group of Harry Potter costumes. She exhibits them at area public libraries, where they have been extremely popular.
Attendees must be 12 years or older to participate. For more information about the event, call 847-663-1234 or click here.
