You might be asking, “What is a maker?”. Makers are people just like you and me. The only difference is makers are thinkers and creatives who use their imaginations. Imaginations bring ideas and ideas can become realities in forms of art and solutions to world problems with the right tools and collaboration with other like-minded people.
Maker Fest is an annual event that brings innovators, tinkerers, hobbyists, crafty people, and entrepreneurs together to celebrate makers! Think big show-and-tell sprinkled with a plethora of activities. Why should you attend?
Connect with our local exhibitors! They will be showing off the wonderful things they make as well as the processes that go on behind the scenes. You might discover something that seems simple, such as knitting, might be more complex than what you had originally thought. Most exhibitors provide a hands-on activity everyone can participate in.
Empower yourself with the Library’s tools and resources. The Library has 3D printers, music and sound equipment, a laser cutter, DSLR cameras, and video cameras just to name a few. Many of our last year attendees did not know we had all that. Come in and see what we have. Who knows you might be the next big Youtuber!
Develop new skills. Learning new skills will carry into your regular lives and will make doing things easier and quicker, which saves a lot of time, energy, and stress. Wheel and Sprocket will be demonstrating bicycle maintenance and upkeep.
Visit other worlds and solve puzzles in virtual reality! The game, Fantastic Contraption, will be showcased during Maker Fest. Build contraptions with your own two hands, life sized and as big as horses, right there in front of you. Play with the physics, juggle pieces, throw darts, feel another world all around you, and solve challenging puzzles!
Collaborate with other makers on a wooden sculpture. One of the best ways to strengthen our maker community is to build connections.
These are only a millimeter amount of reasons to attend Maker Fest. The Niles-Maine District Library has the day jam-packed with things to do! Parents should be warned. Your kids won’t want to leave!
Maker Fest is a FREE event for all ages on Saturday, November 11, 12-3:30pm.
