You’ve probably noticed our really cool new blog header above.  It was submitted by our first place artist in this year’s Teen Read Week Art Contest, Christian V!

We’re midway through Teen Read Week (October 17-23).  I hope everyone has had time to do some reading this week — just for fun.  No, you say?  Then why not take a few minutes right now?  Drop whatever you’re doing, and take just 30 minutes, or even 20, or 15 to read something you enjoy!

It doesn’t have to be a book.  Books are great, don’t get me wrong, but it’s also fun to read magazines and the Onion.

If you do have time to read a book, please consider sharing a brief review here.  Reviewers are entered in a drawing for a book store gift card!

Voting is open for the annual Teens Top Ten books!  Visit our website to see the list of nominations.  Teens can vote online and also at the library.  Visit the Ref or AV desks to vote and get free candy!

Voting will take place now through September 17.  The winners will announced during Teen Read Week (October 17-24).  All 26 nominations were chosen by teen reading groups across the country.

Your original header art could decorate this blog!  Art may be done in a variety of media – including digital – and must fit the dimensions 225 pixels by 700 pixels.  First place will win a $50 gift card.

To enter you must be between ages 12 and 18 as of October 23, 2010 and live in Illinois. Up to 6 entries may be submitted on paper, flash drive, CD or as email attachments.  Please note we cannot return entries. Winners will be contacted by phone or email.  Please include name, address, age and contact info with your entries.  Submitting entries for the contest constitutes permission to publish your name and art should your entry win.

Submit your art by 5:00pm Saturday October 23.  Submissions will be accepted at the A/V and Reference desks, by email dblock@nileslibrary.org and regular mail (Niles Public Library District, 6960 W. Oakton St., Niles, IL 60714)

The Niles Public Library Teen Advisory Board has met and judged all 69 entries in our 2008 Teen Read Week Art Contest.  Thank you to everyone who submitted their artwork!  Six finalists have been chosen to serve as blog headers for the Teen Scene blog during the next year.
