Summer Reading Volunteers
Teens entering grades 7-12 in the fall are invited to volunteer in Youth Services this summer! Attend one orientation session later this month (May 27 or May 29) to volunteer for the Summer Reading Club.
Talented local teens wrote a hilarious play, now we need actors & artists to create a successful performance this summer! Auditions take place MondayJune 29; and rehearsals run Monday, Wednesday, Friday through July 24. Our final performance & party takes place July 25. You don’t have to attend every single rehearsal to help out!
We need you (yes, you!) to help with our annual summer theatre project. Beginning Monday, June 16, earn volunteer hours (and have fun!) at the library.
When? 1:00-3:00 pm Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays June 16 – July 18 (with a performance on July 19).
Where? Niles Public Library, in the large meeting room
What? Create an original play for children & families
Why? It’s fun & a good deed!
Many of you will be required to read at least one book (maybe more) over the summer. Before you go out and buy those books, you may want to try the library. We’ve got local public and private schools’ summer reading lists, and can help you locate the books. Search our catalog now.
If the book you want is checked out, then we can put a hold on it for you. We stock multiple copies of the popular books, so you won’t have to wait all summer to get them. Find out how to win prizes by reading.
Summer Reading Volunteers
We cannot run our Summer Reading Club without the help of our wonderful volunteers! Volunteer and earn service hours as well as good experience working with kids. Volunteers must register for and attend one Volunteer Orientation session. Register online at www.nileslibrary.org, in person, or call 847-663-6623 starting May 1st.
Teens, share the joy of reading with a child and earn service hours. If you have free time this summer and are in 8th grade or older, you can be a Book Buddy! Buddies read to and listen to children read once a week for an hour. The library provides all materials and training. For more information or to sign up to be a Book Buddy, call Clara at 847-663-6628.
