To any teens out there who have hit the mid-summer slump where you can’t think of anything fun to do, the Niles Library has some upcoming programs to cure the summertime blues.

There is only one day when Star Wars fans, Potterheads, Whovians, and Disney maniacs can all gather and mingle in fan frenzy bliss here at the Niles Library: Fandom Fest! Join us on Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 2 to 4pm for a day full of crafts, costumes, and tributes to your favorite movies, TV shows, and comics.
According to our Teen Underground poll, the top fandoms are:

The Niles Public Library’s very own Anime & Manga Club have compiled a list of their favorite manga and anime series from the past year. The list includes new volumes and episodes produced in 2012, as well as older titles that were just discovered this past year.

The Teen Read Week Anime and Manga celebration is this Saturday, October, 15 at 3:00pm in the large meeting room. Play Japanese games, munch on Japanese treats, and help plan the November meeting.
Colleen, the library’s graphic artist, will join us to create a Manga collage for the public art show on October 30. Bring your old manga magazines and/or manga art to add to the collage! Everyone is also invited to bring individual art work for display at the show.
The art show takes place 2:00-4:00pm on Sunday, October 30. Local teen ska band the Copy Chiefs will play and refreshments will be served. All art will be returned after the reception.
Saturday July 9 is Manga & Anime Day at Niles Public Library!
Our Anime & Manga Club meets at noon to watch Sgt. Frog and share original manga art. Discuss new releases and old favorites.
Stick around for Real Japan for Anime Fans program with local author James Kennedy. Learn about the Hadaka Matsuri, a Buddhist festival in which thousands of nearly-naked men fight for holy sticks. Come along on the pilgrimage to the 88 temples of Shikoku. Explore the neon streets of Tokyo and tour the temples of Kyoto. Discover how the real Japan ties into its pop culture—for instance, did you know the bathhouse of the gods from Miyazaki’s Spirited Away is based on a real bathhouse?

Marvel Comics announced last Thursday that Barack Obama will appear in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #583, available on Jan. 14th.
In the comic, Spider-Man comes to the rescue when Obama’s Jan. 20 inauguration is disrupted.

Sunday, Nov. 23 – Science with Ben 1:00-4:00 in the Large Meeting Room
