In September 2010, wanting to help LGBT teens who can’t picture happy adult lives for themselves, syndicated columnist Dan Savage and his partner Terry created a YouTube video.
Within a few months, the It Gets Better Project had inspired over 10,000 people to share their own videos, which have been viewed over 35 million times. President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway, Colin Farrell, Matthew Morrison of “Glee”, Joe Jonas, Joel Madden, Ke$ha, Tim Gunn, Ellen DeGeneres and the staffs of The Gap, Google, Facebook and Pixar are among those who have contributed.
It Gets Better has also been adapted into a book that is available now at the library. There are also many other resources for LGBT teens and their friends and supporters. Click here to see a list of books: LGBTQ | Niles Public Library District | BiblioCommons.
