In early June, the Niles Public Library District (soon-to-be Niles-Maine District Library) kicked off this year’s Summer Reading Challenge with family festivities.
On Saturday, June 3, the BIG Fun Summer Reading Kickoff attracted nearly 500 people. The major blockbuster were two sold out magic shows by The Great Boodini. The Magician of the Year performed an interactive show featuring a Minion magic trick and finding $5 inside a lemon! In KidSpace, kids enjoying face painting and playing the Summer Reading Challenge Game. Yogli Mogli arrived with free frozen yogurt for everyone and the Teen Advisory Board had a table displaying edible architecture. On Sunday, June 4, the Library presented Field Day and Concert at Golf Mill Park, located on Church St. and Cumberland. About 120 people attended the event and kids actively participated in a 3-legged race, a hula hoop competition, and a bean bag toss game. There was also a special performance by Fox & Branch, a family folk music group.
