Book Review: Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson

A book with a very strange premise (something perfect for Hollywood): an amnesiac begins to try and remember her life by keeping a journal and writing down her daily thoughts and occurrences.

Each time Christine wakes up, it is like it was 20 years ago. She forgets EVERYTHING about her marriage, her work, her life. She goes about the day, struggling, trying to piece her life together with little baby steps of progress. Then, she goes to sleep and wakes up and all of the progress she made the day before is gone. Each morning is a completely clean slate. By keeping the journal, her therapist tells her she can go each day and read what she wrote the days before. And this might help her begin to put some of the pieces together.

A true psychological novel, this story captivates from beginning to end. Will Christine remember? What will happened to her?

A must read just to find out the answers to these questions!

If you’re interested in the film adaptation of this book, it’s coming out this year! The film will be directed and written by Rowan JoffĂ©. The film stars Nicole Kidman, Mark Strong, Colin Firth and Anne-Marie Duff.

The book and ebook are available for checkout at the Niles Public Library.
